Here is yet another gem for all the bitpop lovers: This time the spotlight is on Dutch artist Popsicle Theory and the single “In i det okända”, written by Eline van den Nieuwenhuizen and produced by Marcus Johansson and Jim Knutsson.
The music is difficult to pin down to a single genre, but the title offers a clue: it might be about the courage to dive headfirst into an unknown setting. Is it a night out at a new club, a plunge into the deepest part of a swimming pool, or the very beginning of a relationship? The interpretation is entirely up to the listener.
Popsicle Theory is known for crafting emotional soundscapes with nothing more than a Game Boy – where pixels become melodies and retro nostalgia meets heartfelt intimacy. Previous works such as “Dreams”, “Kaleidoscope” and “Shift and Recover” have already established her as one of the most exciting voices in modern bitpop.
The single is an explosive remix from Sweden’s Ninjaspark, pioneers of the Swedish bitpop scene since the mid-2000s. The band, which returned in 2024 after years of silence, has always combined energy, humor, and 8-bit nostalgia in a way that both captivates festival audiences and challenges the music scene. Here, they take Popsicle Theory’s dreamy original and inject it with their own chaotic playfulness and dance floor energy.
The result is a colorful journey into the unknown – where two different bitpop traditions meet and fuse into something entirely new.
