Exx

Active on the label 2007-2008

Exx occupy the kind of artistic territory that resists easy definition—and that is exactly where their appeal begins. Emerging from Paris, the group gathered figures including Lula, Frederic Kooshmanian and Mich Oshowiak, with an extended creative orbit that also involved sound engineer Léon Drati, bassist Marco Elliard and guitarist Marco Papazian. What they created was not straightforward synthpop or rock, but a more elusive hybrid: electronic, art-minded and emotionally charged, with enough mystery in its presentation to make the music feel like a transmission from its own self-contained world.

Their Electric Fantastic Sound release Emois Et Toi introduced a band with a distinctly continental elegance and a taste for collaboration, including a guest appearance from Christopher Panov of Godlike. Exx work through texture as much as hooks: voices, guitars and electronics are woven together with a sense of experimentation that never feels academic or cold. For curators, writers and adventurous listeners drawn to the outer edges of electronic pop, Exx offer something rare—a project that feels cosmopolitan, unconventional and genuinely difficult to pin down in all the right ways.
